Top law student competitors found
STUDENTS in the five New Zealand law schools have been mooting, negotiating, interviewing and examining witnesses recently to decide the top performers at each university.
The four streams of the competition are client interviewing, sponsored by Russell McVeagh, mooting, by Bell Gully, negotiation, by Buddle Findlay, and witness examination, by Minter Ellison Rudd Watts.
The 2008 regional winners are:
Auckland University
Client Interviewing, Tonia Mortell and Wayne Hofer; Mooting, Sally Trafford and Jennifer Devlin; Negotiation, Nick Frith and Matthew Graham; Witness Examination, David Tong.
Waikato University
Client Interviewing, Ben Cain and Jill Thomson; Mooting, Jeni Fountain and Daniel Robinson; Negotiation, Jeni Fountain and Kevin Badcock; Witness Examination, Jeni Fountain.
Victoria University
Client Interviewing, Henry Clayton and Adam Edwards; Mooting, Jamie Eng and Oliver Searle; Negotiation, Adriaan Barnard and Shane Swinerd; Witness Examination, Charlotte Hollingsworth.

These regional winners have qualified to compete in the annual Australian Law Students’ Association Conference in Hobart on 7-13 July and the New Zealand competition finals in Auckland on 2-6 September, held in conjunction with the New Zealand Law Students’ Association Conference.
