South Pacific Law Conference
THE Fiji Law Society (FLS) will hold its 2008 Annual Convention in association with the South Pacific Law Conference.
The Rule of Law in Ethnically Diverse Societies is the theme of the FLS’s convention, to be held on Denarau Island, Nadi, from the 17-19 July.
A "very special and warm welcome" is extended to members of the NZLS, the Law Council of Australia, LAWASIA, the International Bar Association and colleagues from the South Pacific, FLS president Isireli Fa says.
The convention will examine the role the law presently plays or could play in managing the rights, interests and aspirations of the diverse communities that comprise Fiji and in maintaining the delicate checks and balances that need to exist.
"The concept of a South Pacific Law Conference is exciting and it is an idea whose time has come. I am delighted that the FLS could play a lead role in bringing this concept to fruition," Isireli Fa says.
This event will address some of the current issues of interest that countries in the region face and looks to the future in terms of co-operation and sharing ideas and resources, all with the goal of developing capacities in our respective countries.
South Pacific Law Conference topics include A Common Court for the South Pacific and The South Pacific War on Terror – Legal Implications.
