Former lawyer lands role as lawyer
FORMER Russell McVeagh lawyer and actress, Ro Dalziel, has landed an acting role in London. And the role won't be unfamiliar, as she is playing a kiwi lawyer.
English company, Trailer Trash Theatre, is presenting the UK premiere of New Zealand play Foreskin’s Lament by Greg McGee.
Set in 1976, the work focuses on a local rugby team whose lives are the game and each other. Underneath the hilarity lies a dark betrayal and a young man’s torn loyalties.
Ro Dalziel, who plays the bald Nurse Beanie Brown on Shortland Street, is clearly enthusiastic.
"Everyone I’ve spoken to in the New Zealand industry, since being cast, has remarked on how good the play is and the impact it had on them," she says. "It’s fantastic that this play, which shows just what theatre can achieve, is now being performed in England, the home of theatre."
As for being typecast, is Ro Dalziel concerned? "Not so much. In fact, I’m very grateful to Lindsey for casting me as, had I not been cast as a kiwi lawyer for whatever reason, I could well have started re-considering my acting career prospects and giving Russell McVeagh a call to see if I could get my old job back."
Foreskin’s Lament is showing at the historic Hackney Empire in London at the end of June before transferring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
