New Zealand Law Society Committees

NZLS Board | NZLS Council | Special Committees | Ad Hoc Committees

NZLS committees cover a wide range of areas of substantive law and practice, society functions, and other issues of importance to the profession.

The committees help the Society discharge its statutory functions of:

  • Promoting the interests of the legal profession and the interests of the public in relation to legal matters.
  • Promoting and encouraging proper conduct among the members of the legal profession.
  • Preserving and maintaining the integrity and status of the legal profession.
  • Promoting opportunities for the acquisition and diffusion of legal knowledge.
  • Assisting in and promoting the reform of the law.

Committees are of two types: Special Committees are appointed annually by the Society's Board and deal with many issues within their terms of reference; Ad Hoc Committees are appointed to address single issues and are disbanded once their objectives have been met.
